Changing Winder Counter battery

Changing the Counter battery in Winders made before 2004

Expected battery life 6-8 years

Winders manufactured before 2004 use the battery CR-1/3N Lithium; 3.0 volts; 160 mAh; Diameter 11.6 mm; Length 10.8 mm. You can buy it at "Batteries America" or other places. "Batteries America": Phone: 1-800-308-4805     http://www.batteriesamerica.com/Lithium/memory.htm

To install the new battery you have to remove the counter.

1.Unscrew the front part with the torque meter (Both handle and torque meter are attached by means of 8 mm thread). To do so apply force on the handle, so it binds on the thread; than unscrew the torque meter. This is the trickiest part of the entire procedure. You may not be able to unscrew the torque meter this way. If it does not work go to step 6.
2.Remove the screw holding the counter ring.
3.Remove the counter from the winder body. Now you have access to all four screws that hold the counter lid.
4.Open the counter, install the new battery and reassemble everything
5.Battery is good for 5-7 years.
6.Disassemble Gearbox
a)Remove handle
b)Mark the position of the gearbox cover
c)Remove a screw locking the gearbox cover
d)Unscrew the gearbox cover with the spanner wrench. (A piece of bent 3/32 wire may work)
e)Remove the large gear
f)Wedge the small gear with the wooden or aluminum piece and unscrew the torque meter
g)Reinstall the gearbox cover and locking screw and go to step 2
